Stefan’s garden
We planted a diverse array of edible plants for this rooftop garden, with a focus on perennial herbs and heirloom fruiting vegetables. We also planted lots of support species such as pigeon pea, rattlebox and Mexican sunflower. The soil was already pretty fertile here, we improved it by passing once with a broadfork and adding some compost. Next, the plants were planted and mulched with a layer of wood shavings. Subsequently, the garden exploded in growth and was a bit much for the household to manage. We installed some log rolls to better demarcate the pathways and planting spaces, making the garden more orderly for easier management.
