Hen’s garden

This project was to revamp a space with existing plywood raised beds, which served our client well for a few years. As the raised beds were breaking down, we proposed to upgrade to a durable material - galvanised steel; and also to increase the amount of planting space to increase the potential of a higher yield. The planting scheme borrowed ideas from the layers of a forest but scaled down to the context of the space. For instance, okra occupied the highest strata, with eggplants and radishes beneath it. A trellis bordered two sides of the space, which we utilised to grow a variety of climbing plants such as tonkin jasmine, cucumbers and long beans. There was also a huge focus on heirloom fruiting vegetables.
